Strawberries In Spring

Picking strawberries has become an annual tradition for us.  In fact, this is our 5th year of strawberry picking!

Here is Kara right before she turned two enjoying a juicy strawberry:

And here they are a year later when Analise could get in on the action.  Those cheeks…

We enjoy sharing this experience with friends, so we asked some of our good buddies to join us!  Judson was rightfully restrained.  Next year, buddy.  Next year.  🙂

Kara is a pro at this now!

Analise inspects each berry making sure that every bit of it is red-ripe
with no green.

That afternoon we baked a strawberry-rhubarb pie.
I had my helpers to chop up the berries and rhubarb.

See the wooden snake photo-bomb?  Snakes like strawberries too.
Our semi-homemade strawberry-rhubarb pie.  Everything was homemade except the crust.  Store-bought may not be as good, but sometimes easier is better than tastier.  However, this pie was quite tasty if I do say so myself.

Here’s to spring and berry-picking!  By the way, we were told that Mother’s Day weekend is the best time to pick strawberries- they will be at their juiciest then.  We may need to go for a second-round picking. 😉
